Private schools workstream

Private schools form an important part of the Indian education landscape – 12 crore or approximately 50% of all children study in private schools. The majority of these are ‘budget private schools’, charging anywhere between ₹150-1,000 per child, per month. However, student achievement in these schools is poor, and few children achieve grade-level competency. Worse, outcomes have not been improving over time. We are working to improve the quality of education in private schools by finding scaling pathways for evidence-based solutions to the information asymmetry and enabling environment for private schools by reducing the regulatory burden on inputs and making the regulatory environment more conducive to entry, competition and innovation.
